Spec Ad for Family Living Magazine Concepting Phase (2020-2021)
Family Living Magazine was designed by me and one other designer from the ground up. In early 2020 our CEO approached us with a pitch for a variable magazine—something unlike anything in the local market. Our development team had created a software that could organize complex flows and produce print ready variable materials based on rooftop data. We worked on concepting for a year and half before launching in November of 2021. In that time, we produced 6 different magazines, complete with cover concepts and spec ads based on the target market and audience.
The spec ads needed to be suitable for: home and lifestyle brands, family services, health and wellness offerings, local businesses, and seasonal campaigns seeking an authentic, family-centered presentation. They balanced warmth and contemporary style, emphasizing clear hierarchy, readable typography, and thoughtful white space to let imagery and messaging breathe. Creative choices favor relatable family moments, natural color palettes, and approachable type that support trust and comfort without feeling dated.
